Grove City goes 5-0 at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to improved to 11-7 overall after picking up two wins at the Carthage Midwest Invitational Saturday afternoon. Grove City earned an 8-7 win over host Carthage in Saturday's opener. The Wolverines then pulled out a 10-8 win over longtime rival Washington & Jefferson. Grove City finished the Invitational 5-0. The Wolverines have also won a program-record seven straight matches.

Junior Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led Grove City with four goals against Carthage while sophomore Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), sophomore Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./Thomas Aquinas) and junior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) all scored once each.

Stiebler assisted on two goals while LaPalme, freshman Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and senior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) all recorded one assist.

Thompson posted four steals while freshman goalkeeper Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) stopped three shots.

Six different Grove City players scored in the win over W&J. Johnson fired in three goals while Stiebler and Thompson both had two goals each. LaPalme, McRuer and senior Monica Gigliotti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) all scored once.

Johnson also assisted two goals while McRuer and Thompson both had one assist. Stiebler picked up five steals while McRuer had four thefts.

Fleming earned the win in goal with five saves.

Grove City returns to action in two weeks as the Wolverines will compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
