Three honored by ACWPC

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) honored three Grove City College women's water polo players for their respective performances during the 2010 season.

The ACWPC selected freshman goalkeeper Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) as a Division III Second Team All-American. The Association also named seniors Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) as Honorable Mention Division III All-Americans.

Johnston made an immediate impact on defense for Grove City, stopping 55 percent of the shots faced this year. She recorded 252 total saves on the season while playing all 31 matches in goal. Johnston also earned CWPA Division III Rookie of the Year honors earlier this summer.

Thompson fired in 58 goals in 2010 while also recording a team-high 38 assists. She earned CWPA Division III Most Valuable Player recognition following the 2010 season.

Stiebler ranked second on the squad with 72 goals this year. She also ranked second on the team with 22 assists. Stiebler became Grove City's all-time leader with 193 career goals during the 2010 season and received Second Team All-CWPA Division III recognition.

Grove City finished the season 17-14 overall, including a 10-0 record in CWPA Division III conference play. The Wolverines won the inaugural CWPA Division III crown and placed fourth at the season-ending Collegiate III Championships in Kenosha, Wis. May 7-8.
