Wolverines open 2010 season

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened the 2010 season Thursday evening with a 13-4 setback against Division II California State-San Bernardino.

Senior Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) fired in two goals for the Wolverines (0-1) while junior Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and sophomore Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored once. Johnson and junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) both had assists.

In goal, freshman Amanda Johnson (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped 10 shots in her collegiate debut.

Grove City returns to action Saturday at the Chapman University Tournament in Orange, Calif. The Wolverines face Chapman at 11 a.m. Grove City then plays Occidental at 2:45 p.m.
