Wolverines top Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team picked up its seventh win of the 2010 season Wednesday night by earning a 13-2 win over host Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center. The Wolverines (7-9) have now won seven straight matches against Division III opponents. 

Six different Grove City players scored in the victory. Sophomore Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) fired in four goals for Grove City while junior Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) scored three times. Seniors Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each scored twice.

Junior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and sophomore Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) both scored once. Grove City led 9-1 at halftime.

Stiebler also assisted on five goals while Thompson tallied three assists. Johnson registered two assists while Baur had one assist.

Defensively, Thompson had five steals while Baur and Stiebler each chalked up four steals. Junior Allison White (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) recorded three thefts.

In goal, freshman Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped nine shots.

Grove City returns to action April 9-10 with Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play at Connecticut College.
