Wolverines top Gannon at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team went 1-1 Sunday afternoon at the University of Michigan Invitational, moving Grove City's overall record to 7-8. Grove City closed the tournament with a come-from-behind 11-9 win over longtime rival Gannon in Sunday's second game.

Grove City opened the day with a 9-6 setback against Division I foe Siena.

Grove City trailed 8-7 entering the fourth quarter against Gannon but the Wolverines charged back for the win. Juniors Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) both fired in four goals each for the Wolverines while seniors Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Allison White (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) all scored once.

LaPalme assisted on five goals while junior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale), freshman Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Lauren Baur each had one assist.

In goal, sophomore Ashley Sammons (Santee, Calif./Santana) had five saves for the Wolverines.

Johnson and LaPalme both scored twice against Siena while Wilson and Kristi Baur each scored once. Wilson and Lauren Baur each had assists. Sammons stopped four shots in goal.

Grove City will visit Gannon March 22.
