Wolverines top Notre Dame

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 8-9 overall Friday night by securing a 12-5 win over visiting Notre Dame (Ohio) at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. Grove City jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period and extended the lead to 10-1 by halftime.

Six different Wolverines scored in the win. Junior Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) fired in five goals for Grove City while senior Allison White (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) and junior Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) both scored twice.

Senior Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./Thomas Aquinas) and junior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) all scored once.

Baur, White and Wilson all had two assists each. LaPalme and freshman Abby Wells (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) both assisted one goal apiece.

In goal, sophomore Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped four shots. Johnston played the first half and sophomore Ashley Sammons (Santee, Calif./Santana) played the second half.

Grove City will host Gannon and Mercyhurst Saturday. The Wolverines face Gannon at noon. The Mercyhurst match is scheduled for 7:30.
