Wolverines top W&J, Wheaton

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association play Friday afternoon by downing host Washington & Jefferson 10-7 in the Henry Memorial Center Pool. The Wolverines then rolled to a 12-5 victory over Wheaton (Ill.) Friday night at the Henry Center.

Seniors Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) and Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) each fired in four goals for the Wolverines against W&J. Senior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and freshman Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) also scored in the victory.

Wilson and freshman Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) both recorded two assists. Fleming, senior Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian) and junior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) all had one assist each.

Johnston stopped six shots in goal. Sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) tallied five steals.

Hinkle, Johnson and Wilson all scored three times each for Grove City against Wheaton. Baur, Brush and Hulsebus each added one goal. Hulsebus also assisted on three goals while Baur and Johnston each had two assists.

Hinkle added one assist and recorded a team-high three steals. In goal, Johnston stopped a season-high 15 shots.

Grove City (4-6, 2-0 CWPA Division III) will face Chatham Saturday at noon at W&J. The Wolverines will also play Carthage (3 p.m.) and Macalester (7:30 p.m.) Saturday.
