Wolverines blast Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team won its sixth consecutive match Thursday night, rolling to a 17-5 victory at Penn State Behrend in the Junker Center. Grove City (8-6) led 8-0 after the first quarter and maintained its sizeable lead over the final three periods.

Eight Wolverine players scored in the win, including a five-goal performance from senior Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian). Sophomore Abby Wells (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) and freshman Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) each scored three times while senior Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) scored twice.

Sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), senior Amy Fallas (Gaithersburg, Md./Montgomery), freshman Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) and senior Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) all scored in the win also.

Hulsebus recorded a team-high four assists while Hinkle and Wilson assisted on three goals apiece. Brush and Johnson both had two assists and Baur assisted on one goal.

Wilson paced the defense with six steals. Hinkle and Hulsebus both had four thefts and Brush added three steals. In goal, senior Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) earned her first win of the season after facing just six shots on the night. Fleming, who made her first appearance in goal since early in the 2010 season, added one steal.

Grove City will host Mercyhurst and Bucknell Saturday in non-conference play at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The Mercyhurst match starts at 10 a.m. and the Wolverines face Bucknell at 4 p.m.
