Grove City tops Mercyhurst but falls to Bucknell

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team captured its seventh straight victory Saturday morning by rolling to a 9-4 home victory over Division II Mercyhurst in non-conference action at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The Wolverines' win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, however, as Division I Bucknell earned a 15-8 win over Grove City.

Grove City led 3-0 after the first period and then sealed the win in the final quarter by scoring the final four goals of the match.

Four Wolverines recorded multi-goal outings in the win. Sophomore Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) fired in three goals while senior Amanda Brush (Charlton, N.Y./Schenectady Christian), senior Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) all scored twice.

Hinkle, Johnson and senior Andrea Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas) all assisted on one goal each.

In goal, junior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) recorded eight saves.

Hinkle and fellow freshman Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) both scored three goals against Bucknell and Johnson scored twice. Baur assisted on two goals and Johnson added one assist.

Defensively, Johnson had three blocked shots and three steals. Johnston stopped five shots in goal.

Grove City will host Notre Dame (Ohio) and Gannon next Saturday in non-conference play.
