Grove City moves to 3-0 in CWPA Division III play

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team moved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the league play Saturday by splitting a pair of matches at Washington & Jefferson College. The Wolverines closed the day with an 8-6 victory over host W&J in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference play at the Henry Memorial Center Natatorium.

Earlier Saturday, the Wolverines dropped a 7-5 decision to Mercyhurst.

Freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) fired in three goals against W&J. Junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), junior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak), sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton), sophomore Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) and freshman Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) all scored once.

Hinkle also assisted two goals and freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) added an assist.

Baur and Parks each recorded five steals while Burrows and Hinkle each had three thefts. In goal, senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped seven shots to earn the victory.

Against Mercyhurst, Hinkle pumped in three goals while Hulsebus and Parks each scored once. Henderson recorded Grove City's lone assist. Baur tallied four steals. Johnston stopped 15 of 22 shots faced.

Grove City will visit Penn State Behrend Thursday at 8 p.m. in CWPA Division III action.
