Wolverines drop two at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the University of Michigan Wolverine Invitational. Grove City opened play with a 7-4 setback against Division II Mercyhurst Saturday morning. In Saturday's second clash, the Wolverines dropped a 10-6 decision to Division II Notre Dame (Ohio).

Sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) scored twice for the Wolverines (4-3) against Mercyhurst while junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each scored once. Baur, Parks and junior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) all had assists.

Defensively, Hinkle and senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) both had four steals for the Wolverines. Burrows, Parks and sophomore Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) all three steals. Johnston stopped 11 shots in goal.

Hinkle and Hulsebus both scored twice against Notre Dame (Ohio). Baur and freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) also scored. Baur and Hulsebus both had two assists while Henderson talled one assist.

Hinkle tallied three steals. In goal, Johnston stopped a dozen shots.

Grove City will continue play in the Wolverine Invitational Sunday. Grove City plays Michigan at 9:30 a.m. and then faces Gannon at 12:45 p.m.
