Wolverines drop two at Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Sunday at the University of Michigan Wolverine Invitational. Grove City opened the day with a 13-0 setback against Michigan, the nation's 18th-ranked squad in Division I. The Wolverines then fell to Gannon, 9-6.

Sophomores Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Rockford) and Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) both scored twice against Gannon. Junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each added goals.

Baur also assisted on two goals while Hinkle, Parks and freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) each had one assist.

Hinkle led the defense with four steals and Parks had three steals. In goal, senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped 12 shots.

Johnston recorded 10 saves and three steals in the opener against Michigan. Hulsebus chalked up four steals while Hinkle and Parks each had three steals.

Grove City (4-5) returns to Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play Friday at Penn State Behrend by playing two league matches. The Wolverines face Carthage at 1:20 p.m. and Connecticut College at 5:20 p.m.
