Grove City thumps Carthage; rallies past Connecticut College

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 5-0 in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play Friday afternoon with a 10-3 victory over Carthage at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center. Friday evening, the Wolverines earned their sixth league win of the season by rallying for a 7-5 win over Connecticut College.

Sophomores Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) and Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) both scored three times in the victory over Carthage while junior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) scored twice. Freshmen Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) and Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each scored one goal.

Junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) recorded a career-high seven assists Carthage while Henderson and Parks both assisted one goal.

Defensively, Baur, Hinkle and Parks all had six steals while Henderson and Hulsebus both tallied three takeaways. Senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped eight shots.

Against Connecticut College, Grove City (6-5 overall) trailed 3-2 at halftime before charging back for the victory. Parks pumped in three goals and Baur scored twice. Each player also had two assists. Henderson recorded a goal and an assist and Hulsebus also scored for the Wolverines.

Baur, Burrows and Johnston all had three steals in each. Johnston stopped 13 shots in goal.

Grove City will play a pair of CWPA Division III matches at Penn State Behrend Saturday. The Wolverines meet Macalester at 11 a.m. and close the weekend with a 4:20 p.m. matchup against Utica.
