Grove City now 8-0

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 8-0 in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play Saturday by securing a pair of conference victories at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center. The Wolverines opened the day by pulling out an 11-8 win over Macalester. Grove City (8-5 overall) closed the weekend with a 12-3 victory over Utica.

Three Grove City players recorded multi-goal efforts against Macalester Saturday. Sophomore Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) paced Grove City with four goals while junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each registered three goals. Sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) scored once and added a team-leading three assists.

Parks, junior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) and freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) all had two assists. Baur and Hulsebus each assisted on one goal.

In goal, senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped eight shots. She and Baur both had three steals while Hinkle collected four steals.

Grove City charged out to a 9-1 lead in the first quarter against Utica. Henderson, Hinkle and Hulsebus all tallied three goals and Parks scored twice. Baur added a goal for Grove City, which led 11-2 at halftime.

Parks posted four assists while Baur and Hinkle each had two assists. Defensively, Baur tallied five steals. Henderson and Hinkle each had three thefts. Johnston recorded 11 saves.

Grove City will visit Virginia Military Institute Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
