Grove City falls at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team fell to 8-6 overall Tuesday afternoon by dropping an 11-7 non-conference decision at Virginia Military Institute. VMI jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first period and held off the Wolverines over the final three quarters.

Junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) each scored three times for Grove City while junior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) added a goal.

Freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) assisted on two goals and Hinkle also tallied two assists. Baur and freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each had one assists.

In goal, senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped 10 shots for Grove City. Tuesday's match marked the first meeting between Grove City and VMI.

Grove City returns to action April 5-6 with four Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III matches at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
