Wolverines advance to title match

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Grove City College women's water polo squad advanced to the title match of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships by earning a 7-5 victory over fifth-seeded Carthage Friday afternoon in the tournament semifinals at Connecticut College.

The top-seeded Wolverines (12-8) will face No. 2 Connecticut College or No. 3 Washington & Jefferson in Saturday's championship match at noon.

Sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) fired in four goals for Grove City while classmate Lauren Hulsebus (Belmont, Mich./Rockford) pumped in two goals. Junior Kristi Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) also scored in the win.

Freshman Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) assisted two goals. Baur, Hinkle, Hulsebus and freshman Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) all recorded one assist each.

Baur led the defense with four steals and a pair of blocks. Henderson also blocked two shots. In goal, senior Amanda Johnston (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) stopped nine shots to secure the win.

Grove City is in pursuit of its fourth straight CWPA Division III conference title. The Wolverines earned the top seed in this weekend's tournament and had a bye into the semifinals of the seven-team draw.
