Grove City competes at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Sunday at the Virginia Military Institute Invitational in the second day of action at the two-day competition.

Grove City dropped a 12-8 decision to archrival Washington & Jefferson in Sunday's first match. Host VMI then earned an 18-6 win over the Wolverines in Sunday's finale.

Sophomore Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) recorded four goals against W&J and junior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) added three scores. Senior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) also scored for Grove City.

Parks also assisted three goals and freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added one assist.

Defensively, Hinkle and Parks both had three steals. Freshman goaltender Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped three shots.

Hinkle fired in five goals against Virginia Military Institute while sophomore Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) added a goal. Jank assisted three goals while Parks collected two assists.

Hinkle also had four steals. Frank posted three saves.

Hinkle recorded 20 total goals in Grove City's five matches over the weekend while Parks added 11 goals and nine assists.

The Wolverines return to action March 14-16 for Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III action in Utica, N.Y.
