Grove City blasts Utica in league lidlifter

UTICA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference play Friday evening by rolling to a 21-10 victory at Utica in both teams' conference opener.

Grove City (2-4, 1-0 CWPA) led 9-5 at halftime and broke open the match with a dozen goals in the second half.

Junior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) fired in a career-high nine goals for Grove City and assisted on three other Grove City scores. Sophomore Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) pumped in four goals and senior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) fired in three goals.

Sophomore Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored twice while sophomore Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) added one goal and three assists.

Burrows also assisted on three goals while Henderson and Jank each collected two assists. Parks also had an assist.

Defensively, Hinkle recorded seven steals while Jank had four thefts. Parks added three steals.

In goal, freshman Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped two shots.

Grove City will play three conference matches Saturday in Utica. The Wolverines will face Macalester at 9 a.m. before squaring off with Carthage at 12:45 p.m. Grove City closes play Saturday with a 5:45 match against Monmouth (Ill.).
