Wolverines move to 5-3

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team moved to 5-3 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Division III conference Friday by winning one of three of league matches at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Center.

Grove City opened Friday with a 10-6 setback against W&J but rebounded for a 10-6 triumph over Utica. The Wolverines then fell to Connecticut College in the finale, 18-2.

Five Grove City players scored in the win over Utica, led by a four-goal outing from junior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton). Senior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) fired in three goals while sophomore Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian), freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) all registered one goal.

Hinkle also assisted two goals. Burrows, freshman Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County), Jank, Okray and sophomore Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) all assisted one goal each.

Hinkle recorded seven steals while Jank had five thefts. Henderson had four steals and Burrows and Parks each collected three steals. Frank stopped one shot in goal.

Hinkle scored five of Grove City's six goals in the opener against W&J. Parks added a goal and an assist. Burrows and Jank also tallied assists. Hinkle collected six steals and Parks had five takeaways. Frank stopped three shots.

Burrows and Hinkle each scored in the nightcap. Frank stopped three shots.

Grove City will face Macalester and Carthage Saturday in league play at W&J.
