Grove City earns split

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team moved to 6-4 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Division III conference Saturday afternoon by splitting a pair of league matches at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Center.

After dropping an 11-10 decision to Macalester in the first match of the day, the Wolverines rebounded for a 12-7 win over Carthage.

Junior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) fired in six goals against Carthage while sophomore Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added four goals and a team-high three assists. Senior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) and sophomore Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) also scored in the win.

Freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) assisted on two goals while Henderson added one assist.

Defensively, Hinkle recorded five steals and blocked five shots. Jank had four takeaways while Parks and sophomore Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) had three steals apiece.

Freshman Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped nine shots in goal.

Five Grove City players scored against Macalester in Saturday's opener. Hinkle posted four goals while Jank and Parks each scored twice. Burrows and Henderson also tallied goals.

Henderson assisted two goals while Burrows and Jank added one assist. Burrows had a team-best four steals and Jank contributed three steals. Frank had 10 saves in goal.

Grove City (7-8, 6-4) will face Monmouth (Ill.) Sunday at 2:20 p.m.
