Grove City closes league slate with split

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team wrapped up Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference play Saturday by splitting a pair of conference matches. Grove City opened the day with a 9-3 setback against Washington & Jefferson.

The Wolverines rebounded for a 9-2 win at Penn State Behrend Saturday night, however.

Junior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) and sophomore Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored three times against Behrend to help pace Grove City (9-9, 8-5). Freshman Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added two goals and sophomore Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) also scored.

Jank also assisted three goals while Hinkle and sophomore Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each had one assist.

Jank led the defense with seven steals. In goal, freshman Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped nine shots.

Henderson, Hinkle and senior Lauren Burrows (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) all scored in the opener against W&J. Hinkle also had an assist. She recorded three steals and three blocks. Frank made three saves.

Grove City closes the regular season Tuesday night against visiting Gannon. The CWPA Division III Championship Tournament will be held next weekend in St. Paul, Minn.
