Grove City splits two league matches

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team split a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference matches Friday afternoon at Monmouth College. Grove City (3-3, 3-3 CWPA Division III) opened the day with a 13-11 setback against Macalester. However, Grove City rebounded for a 12-8 win over Utica in Friday's second match.

Six Wolverines scored goals in the win over Utica, including a five-goal performance from senior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton). Juniors Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) and Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both scored twice while junior Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day), sophomore Grace Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) and freshman Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) all scored one goal.

Parks recorded three assists while Henderson and Hinkle each assisted two goals. Blume, Klimek and freshman Brynna Bartlett (Olive Branch, Miss./St. George's) each tallied one assist.

Hinkle recorded 10 steals against Utica while Parks had three steals. In goal, sophomore Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped seven shots.

Grove City owned a 9-8 lead over Macalester entering the fourth quarter before the Scots rallied for the win. Hinkle fired in six goals while Parks scored three times and Henderson scored twice. Henderson and Hinkle each tallied two assists while Blume and Klimek each had one assist.

Frank recorded seven saves in goal. Hinkle recorded four steals.

Grove City will face Carthage at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Wolverines then meet host Monmouth at 7:40 p.m.
