Wolverines split again on second day of CWPA Weekend

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- For the second day in a row, the Grove City College women's water polo split a pair of matches in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III play, falling to Carthage, 10-4, before bouncing back to roll to a 16-7 win over host Monmouth on Saturday evening.

In the match against Carthage, the Wolverines battled with the Lady Reds to a 3-3 halftime tie. However, a 6-0 third quarter proved to be the difference as Carthage pulled away for the victory.

Junior Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) each recorded two goals and an assist while junior Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) added two assists and six steals. Sophomore Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) made 11 saves in goal.

In the nightcap against Monmouth, the Wolverines jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a quarter and extended that lead to 11-0 by halftime before holding off a second-half push by the Scots.

Eight different Wolverines scored in the rout, led by four more goals from Parks. Senior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) added three goals, three assists and seven steals and also made a pair of saves while playing part of the second half in goal while Henderson added two goals, three assists and three steals. Frank and Blume each added a pair of goals while junior Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and freshmen Brynna Bartlett (Olive Branch, Miss./St. George's) and Carolyn Ebel (East McKeesport, Pa./Oakland Catholic) all scored once.

Okray added a career-high six assists while Blume, Parks and Bartlett each tallied single assists. Frank stopped five shots in goal.

Grove City wraps up its weekend with a match against Connecticut College tomorrow afternoon at 12:40 p.m.
