Grove City splits in Connecticut

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team went 1-1 Friday in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference action at Connecticut College. Grove City opened the day with a 13-8 victory over Utica. In the second match of the day, the Wolverines dropped a 10-2 decision to host Connecticut College.

Senior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) and sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) combined for 12 of Grove City's 13 goals in the opener. Hinkle pumped in seven goals while Jank added five scores.

Junior Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) also scored for the Wolverines. Henderson also recorded a team-high four assists. Hinkle and Jank both had two assists while junior Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), junior Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and freshman Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) all assisted one goal apiece.

Jank paced the defense with five steals while Henderson and Hinkle both recorded four steals. Sophomore Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped two shots in goal.

Hinkle and Parks both scored against Connecticut College while Hinkle and Jank each had assists. Hinkle collected five steals and Jank added three thefts. Frank stopped 14 shots in goal.

Grove City (5-7, 5-6 CWPA Division III) will face Carthage at 12:45 p.m. Saturday. The Wolverines will then play Macalester at 4:30 p.m.
