Wolverines drop pair in CWPA play

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Saturday in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference action at Connecticut College. The Wolverines (5-9, 5-8 CWPA DIII) fell to Carthage 7-4 in the day's first match before losing to Macalester 8-6 in the nightcap.

Junior Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) scored twice in the opener for the Wolverines while senior Jocelyn Hinkle (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton) and sophomore Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each added a goal. Hinkle assisted on two of the Grove City scores and added a team-high six steals while Henderson also added an assist. Jank contributed three steals and four sprint wins.

Sophomore Mary Frank (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) stopped five shots in goal.

 Against Macalester, Jank led the offense with three goals while Hinkle, junior Kira Okray (Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and freshman Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) each scored once. Henderson and junior Ashley Parks (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each assisted on three goals while Hinkle led the defense with four steals.

Frank made five saves in the second game.

Grove City concludes its weekend and regular season on Sunday when they face Monmouth at 2 p.m.
