Gannon tops Grove City

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team returned to action Thursday night after a 19-day layoff by dropping a 17-9 decision at Division II foe Gannon.

Senior Ashley Parks (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) paced Grove City with five goals while junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) added a pair of scores. Senior Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) and sophomore Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) each scored once.

Henderson led the defense with three steals while Blume had two thefts. In goal, freshman Sonni Kiefer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) made her first start of the season and recorded five saves. She also posted three steals.

Grove City (3-7) will spend the next two days in Erie at Penn State Behrend as Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III league play resumes. Friday, Grove City (3-2 CWPA) will play Connecticut College at 11:40 a.m. before facing Utica at 5 p.m.
