Behrend edges Grove City

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team closed the 2016 regular season Sunday with a 12-10 setback at Penn State Behrend in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III action at the Junker Center. Grove City concludes league play with a 6-8 mark and will face fourth-seeded Behrend in the quarterfinals of next week's CWPA Division III Championships in New London, Conn.

 Junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) paced the Wolverines (6-14 overall) with six goals Sunday afternoon while senior Ashley Henderson (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Christian) fired in three goals. Freshman Abby Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added a goal for Grove City, which scored four second period goals to tie the match at 6 by halftime.

Sophomore Maggie Blume (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and senior Ashley Parks (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) both had three assists while Henderson and Jank each assisted two goals.

Henderson paced the defense with four steals. In goal, freshman Heidi Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) stopped four shots in goal.

Grove City will be the No. 5 seed in next weekend's eight-team tournament. The Wolverines will play Behrend next Saturday at 11:40 a.m.
