SLIPPERY ROCK, PA, October 12, 2001--It was as easy as 1-2-3-4.
The Grove City College women's cross country team swept places one through four at its home invitational Friday afternoon and posted a 26-point margin of victory at the five-school race, held at the Shamrock Golf Course in nearby Slippery Rock.
Senior Laura Pratt (Solon, OH/Solon) was crowned meet champion, covering the slightly-longer-than 3.1-mile course with a time of 21:19. Senior Charity Pefferman (New Martinsville, WV/Magnolia) placed runner-up in the field of 51 runners with a time of 21:28, followed by third-place senior Jessica Davenport (State College, PA/State College), who crossed in 21:30. Freshman Janna Sallade (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) completed the sweep, posting a fourth-place 21:42.
Junior Morgan Kiper (Hamilton, OH/Talawanda) scored for the Lady Wolverines with a seventh-place time of 22:15, while freshman Katherine Muse (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) and senior Melanie McCoy (Reynoldsburg, OH/Reynoldsburg) placed 10th and 11th, respectively, in 22:58 and 23:25.
Grove City's 17 points out-distanced second-place Penn State Behrend College (43) in the team standings. Waynesburg College (90) placed third, followed by Thiel College (102) and Pitt-Bradford College (140).
It marked the first race ever run at the
Shamrock Golf Course.
