Grove City wins CMU Invitational

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's cross country team won the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday as the Wolverines accumulated just 62 team points in besting the 17-team field.

Junior Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) won the individual title Saturday, turning in a time of 18 minutes, 27 seconds. It is Pedersen's second individual crown this season.

Sophomore Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) joined Pedersen in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish in 19:25. Freshman Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) took 15th in 20:07 while senior Theresa Miller (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) finished 17th in 20:13.

Also for Grove City, freshman Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) finished 22nd in 20:23, one place ahead of classmate Adrienne Sharp (Mountaintop, Pa./Danville), who also turned in a time of 20:23.

Grove City will compete in the Wilmington (Ohio) Invitational next Friday.
