Grove City captures PAC cross country title

BETHANY, W. Va. -- Six Grove City runners earned top 10 finishes Saturday as the Grove City College women's cross country team secured its 16th straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title with 27 team points at Bethany College. Grove City downed Waynesburg (44), Washington and Jefferson (109), Westminster (110) and both Thiel and Bethany, who each had 118 team points.

Junior Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) won the conference's individual title for the third consecutive season. Pedersen completed the six-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 17 seconds, winning by nearly a full minute. Grove City sophomore Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) earned runner-up honors with a time of 25:10.

Pedersen and Pierce earned First Team All-PAC honors with their top-five finishes.

Sophomore Alex Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) earned Second Team All-PAC honors with a seventh-place finish in 26:29.2. Senior Theresa Miller (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) took eighth place in 26:34.5 while freshman Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) took ninth place with a time of 26:40.7.

In addition, freshman Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) took 10th place in 26:46.4. Freshman Sarah Sharp (Mountaintop, Pa./Danville) finished 12th (27:03.7) while frosh Kylie Mackaness (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) took 13th (27:21.0). Miller, Smith and Hewitt all earned Second Team All-Conference laurels by finishing in the top 10.

Grove City will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional at Allegheny College Nov. 13.
