Pedersen qualifies for NCAA meet; Grove City takes 5th

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Junior Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) placed third at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Saturday at Allegheny College, helping the Grove City College women's cross country team place fifth in the region with 210 team points.

By finishing third, Pedersen qualifies for the NCAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday, November 20, in Eau Claire, Wis. Pedersen covered the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 10 seconds to earn her first trip to the national championships.

Sophomore Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) took 35th in a time of 23:53 while sophomore Alex Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) finished 41st in 24:04. Freshman Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) placed 64th in 24:42 while senior Theresa Miller (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) took 67th in 24:45.

Also for Grove City, freshman Sarah Sharp (Mountaintop, Pa./Danville) took 79th in 24:56 and freshman Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) claimed 87th in 25:07.

Host Allegheny won the team title with 99 team points. Dickinson (138), Elizabethtown (140) and Haverford (197) earned second through fourth. The top four teams qualify for the NCAA Championships.
