Grove City wins Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team won the Allegheny College Invitational Saturday afternoon at Robertson Field.

The Wolverines earned 27 team points to hold off host Allegheny (29 points). It is Grove City's second straight title to open the season.

Senior Elisa Pedersen (Santa Rosa, Calif./Montgomery) helped lead Grove City with a second-place finish. She covered the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 1 second. Freshman Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) took fourth in 23:41 while freshman Julia Seward (Elizabethtown, Tenn./Science Hill) took seventh in 24:13.

Sophomore Brittany Croft (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) placed ninth in a time of 24:21 while sophomore Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) finished 11th with a mark of 24:40. Junior Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) placed 12th in 24:42.

Grove City opened the season Sept. 3 by winning the Case Western Reserve Sudeck Classic. The Wolverines will compete in the Penn State Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 24.
