Grove City takes 8th at Case Western

CLEVELAND -- The Grove City College women's cross country team opened the 2006 season with an eighth-place finish at the 14-team Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Classic Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines earned 194 team points. Edinboro won the team title with 61 points.

Sophomore Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) led Grove City with a fifth-place finish. She covered the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 13 seconds.

Freshman Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) finished 43rd in 20:49.10 while junior Amanda Hewitt (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) took 45th with a time of 20:58.20. Sophomore Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) placed 50th (21:05.10) while junior Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) crossed in 55th place (21:18.90).

Grove City will return to action Sept. 16 at the Penn State Invitational.
