Grove City secures 18th straight conference crown

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team earned its 18th consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday, slipping past host Waynesburg at the PAC Cross Country Championships at the Greene County Airport. Grove City accumulated 32 team points, nipping Waynesburg, which had 35.

Sophomore Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) earned PAC MVP honors by winning the individual race. Carter captured first in a time of 24 minutes, 7 seconds. Carter won by 22 seconds over Saint Vincent's Kara Shirley.

Senior Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon Central) joined Carter on the PAC First Team with a seventh-place finish. Pierce posted a time of 25:44. Junior Sarah Sharp (Mountaintop, Pa./Danville) claimed First Team honors with a 15th-place finish (25:59).

Four Grove City runners earned PAC Second Team honors. Freshman Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) took 19th in 26:19 while senior Alexandra Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) placed 20th (26:22). Also for the Wolverines, sophomore Tarah Just (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) took 23rd in 26:36 and junior Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) finished 24th with a mark of 26:49.

Grove City will return to Waynesburg Nov. 11 for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships.
