Carter qualifies for NCAA meet; Wolverines take 12th

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Grove City College sophomore cross country runner Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) qualified for next Saturday's NCAA Division III Championships by placing seventh at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Saturday afternoon at Waynesburg College.

Carter's effort helped the Wolverines place 12th overall in the 41-team field. Grove City accumulated 408 team points. Dickinson won the team title with 49 points while Haverford placed second with 104.

Carter completed the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 45 seconds to earn seventh place and a trip to the national championships. Dickinson junior Caitlin Bradley won the individual title in 22:40.

Also for Grove City, freshman Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) capped her rookie season by finishing 90th in 26:30. Junior Sarah Sharp (Mountaintop, Pa./Danville) finished 93rd with a time of 26:31 while senior Cara Pierce (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Canton Central) placed 103rd (26:41).

Sophomore Tarah Just (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) took 115th place in the field with a mark of 26:54. Junior Rachael Smith (Columbia, Md./Hammond) crossed in 131st place (27:09) while senior Alex Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) finished 133rd (27:13).

Carter will compete in the NCAA Championships next Saturday, November 18, at Wilmington (Ohio) College.
