Carter's 2nd straight title helps Grove City place 3rd

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Junior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) recorded her second straight individual title Saturday morning, helping the Grove City College women's cross country team place third at the Slippery Rock University Open. The Wolverines accumulated 55 team points. Indiana (Pa.) won with 38 points, followed by Slippery Rock, which had 40 points.

Carter completed the course at Cooper's Lake Campground in 22 minutes, 54.1 seconds. She won by 25.6 seconds over Slippery Rock senior Katie Bork. Last week, Carter earned ECAC Division III Runner of the Week after winning the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational.

Junior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) took sixth place in 24:15.0 while freshman Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) earned 11th place with a time of 24:45.6.

Freshman Brigitte Fryan (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) placed 15th with a time of 25:12.4 and senior Adrienne Sharp (Mountain Top, Pa./Danville) took 28th in 26:17.8. Senior Amanda Hewitt (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) finished 29th (26:23.6).

Grove City will compete in the Gettysburg Invitational next Saturday, October 13.
