Grove City wins PAC crown

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team successfully defended its Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday, accumulating just 19 team points en route to the team title at the 2007 PAC Championships, hosted by Saint Vincent College. Waynesburg (63), W&J (82), Westminster (99) and Bethany (113) rounded out the field.

Junior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) won her second straight PAC individual title after completing the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 52 seconds. It is Carter's fourth consecutive individual title this season.

Junior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) earned runner-up honors with a time of 23:05, joining Carter on the All-PAC First Team.

Three Grove City freshmen also earned First Team honors Saturday. Freshman Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) took eighth with a time of 24:10 while freshman Brigitte Fryan (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) finished ninth in 24:16. Freshman Jessica Vernon (Butler, Pa./Butler) placed 13th (24:39).

Sophomore Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) and senior Sarah Sharp (Mountain Top, Pa./Danville) both earned PAC Second Team honors. Nelson finished 15th in a time of 24:47 while Sharp placed 16th (24:49). Senior Amanda Hewitt (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned 20th place with a time of 25:06, giving Grove City eight runners in the top 20.

Head coach Sean Severson earned PAC Coach of the Year for his efforts.

The Wolverines will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships November 10 at Lehigh University.
