Grove City claims 2nd at Cal Invite

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash/Bellingham) won the individual title at the California University of Pennsylvania Invitational Saturday, helping the Grove City College women's cross country team take second overall with 64 points. NCAA Division II member Slippery Rock won the team title with 38 points.

Carter completed the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 22 seconds. It is her second individual title of the season. Fellow senior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) captured third place in 18:33.

Three other Grove City runners finished in the top 25. Sophomore Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished 15th with a time of 20:20 while sophomore Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) placed 20th overall (20:40). Junior Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) finished 25th with a 21:05 clocking.

Grove City will compete in the Waynesburg University Invitational next Saturday, September 13.
