Seward wins title at Waynesburg; Wolverines take 4th
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Senior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) captured first place at the Waynesburg University Invitational Saturday, helping the Grove City College women's cross country team to fourth place in the 13-team event. The Wolverines finished the day with 108 team points and trailed only Messiah (55), Haverford (85) and Allegheny (100).
Seward won the individual title after completing the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 17 seconds. It is her first title of the 2008 season.
Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) earned runner-up honors with a time of 22:41. Carter had won each of the first two events she competed in this season, the Westminster Invitational August 30th and the California (Pa.) Invitational September 6.
Sophomore Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) finished 30th overall with a time of 24:56. Sophomore Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) posted a time of 25:17, good for 37th. Sophomore Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) followed in 38th with a time of 25:20.
Grove City returns to action October 3 at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational.
