Grove City captures 10th at Lehigh
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Two Grove City College women's cross country runners posted top-five finishes Friday afternoon at Lehigh University's Paul Short "White" Invitational, helping the Wolverines earn 10th in the 37-team field. Grove City posted 294 team points, good for sixth among Division III schools at the meet. Cortland State won the team title with 102 points.
Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) took fourth for Grove City while classmate Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) finished fifth in the 260-runner field. Carter covered the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes even while Seward crossed in 22:02.
Also for Grove City, sophomore Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) placed 80th in a time of 23:58 while junior Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) finished 97th in 24:14. Sophomore Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) crossed in 108th with a time of 24:14.
Ursinus' Christa Johnson won the individual title with a time of 21:38. Grove City had not competed since running in the Waynesburg Invitational Sept. 13.
The Wolverines will return to action October 18 at Oberlin College's Inter-Regional Invitational.
