Wolverines earn 7th at Oberlin Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's cross country team placed seventh at Oberlin College's 27-team Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday afternoon. Grove City finished with 197 team points. Case Western Reserve won the team title with 60 points.

Seniors Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) and Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) each broke the school record for six kilometers Saturday, helping Grove City become the only team with two runners in the top five. Carter posted a time 21 minutes, 26 seconds to earn third place. Seward, meanwhile, took fifth with a time of 21:34. Janna Sallade set the previous record for 6,000 meters in 2002, 21:45.

Sophomore Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) placed 36th overall with a time of 23:04 while sophomore Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished 75th with a clocking of 23:40. Sophomore Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) recorded a time of 23:42, good for 78th.

Oberlin's Joanna Johnson won the individual title with a time of 21:03. Two-hundred thirty-two runners competed in the event.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships November 1 in Mason, Ohio. Thomas More College is this year's host institution. The Wolverines have won 19 straight league crowns.
