Grove City wins 20th straight conference title

WEST CHESTER, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's cross country team earned its 20th consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday as the Wolverines accumulated just 21 team points at the PAC Championships, hosted by Thomas More College at the Voice of America Park.

Waynesburg finished runner-up with 73 points, followed by Westminster (94), Washington & Jefferson (103), Bethany (125), Thiel (157), Thomas More (169) and Chatham (184).

Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) earned PAC Most Valuable Performer honors for the third straight year after winning the individual title. Carter completed the 6-kilometer course in a school-record time of 21 minutes, 4 seconds.

Senior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) joined Carter on the conference's First Team by placing second overall. Seward recorded a personal-best time of 21:12 for 6,000 meters.

Three other Grove City runners also earned First Team recognition after claiming top 10 finishes. Sophomore Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) finished seventh overall in 23:00. Classmate Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) followed in eighth place (23:32) while freshman Mary Rachel Robbins (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) took ninth place with a time of 23:34.

Two Grove City runners earned Second Team status. Junior Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) finished 12th with a time of 23:40 while freshman Allison Heslop (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) captured 19th with a time of 24:24.

Head coach Sean Severson earned the conference's Coach of the Year award.

Grove City will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships November 15 at Waynesburg University.
