Grove City earns 9th at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's cross country team placed ninth out of 25 teams at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday afternoon. Grove City accumulated 262 team points while competing against some of the nation's premier Division III programs. Johns Hopkins won the team title with 62 points while Case Western finished second with 105.

Freshman Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) led the Grove City effort by finishing 31st in the 220-runner field. Smith completed the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 43 seconds. Fellow freshman Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) took 35th place with a time of 22:50.

Junior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) followed in 36th place (22:58) while junior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) earned 71st in 23:37. Senior Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) finished 89th in 24:02.

Also for Grove City, freshman Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) took 96th (24:12) and junior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished 111th in a time of 24:34.

Grove City returns to action October 31 as the Wolverines will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships in Latrobe, Pa.
