Grove City wins 21st conference title

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team captured its 21st straight Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon at Saint Vincent College. The Wolverines earned a mere 20 points in winning the meet. Host Saint Vincent finished second with 75 points.

Freshman Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) won the individual race for Grove City by completing the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 24 seconds. Classmate Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) finished second with an identical time of 23:24.

In all, seven Grove City runners finished in the top 12. Junior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) took fourth in 24:00 while classmate Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) finished sixth with a time of 24:26.

Freshman Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) earned seventh place with a time of 24:56 while senior Rachel Nelson (Dover, Mass./Lexington Christian) finished 11th in 25:06. Junior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took 12th with a time of 25:09.

Breese, Fisher, Fryan, Pierce and Smith all earned First Team All-PAC honors. Nelson and McRoberts are Second Team All-PAC honorees.

Also for Grove City, freshman Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed 16th (25:33) while freshman Mary Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) earned 18th with a time of 25:45. Freshman Emily Durant (Charles Town, W. Va./Home Schooled) placed 19th with a time of 25:46.

Grove City will return to action November 14 at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Bethlehem, Pa.
