Grove City wins at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team placed eight runners in the top 20 Saturday en route to the team title at Westminster College's Fisher Invitational. Grove City accumulated 32 team points in the event, nipping second-place Franciscan (36 points).

Sophomore Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) paced Grove City with a second-place finish overall in the 118-runner field. Smith posted a time of 23 minutes, 26.5 seconds to earn runner-up.

Senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) captured third place with a time of 23:27.8 while senior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) finished eighth in 24:22.5.

Senior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took ninth place (24:24.3), one spot ahead of junior Mary Rachel Robbins (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport). Robbins took 10th with a time of 24:33.2.

Freshman Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) earned 15th with a 25:03.0 clocking and sophomore Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) secured 17th in 25:14.6. Sophomore Hillary Wilson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) placed 20th in 25:18.5.

Franciscan's Theresa Evans won the individual crown with a time of 23:14.2.

Grove City will compete in the Waynesburg Invitational next Saturday, September 11.
