Wolverines win title at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team captured its second straight team title to open the 2010 season Saturday as the Wolverines captured first place at the Waynesburg Invitational. Grove City accumulated 37 points to win the team title at Greene County Airport. Carnegie Mellon took second with 54 points.

Four Grove City runners finished in the top seven. Sophomore Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) earned third place overall with a time of 23 minutes, 30.5 seconds. Senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) followed in fourth with a time of 23:31.2

Senior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) placed sixth with a time of 24:06.8. Classmate Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) earned seventh place (24:14.8).

Junior Mary Rachel Robbins (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) captured 17th place (25:04.6) and sophomore Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) finished 24th with a time of 25:24.9. Sophomore Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) posted a time of 25:35.3 to take 26th place.

CMU's Emily Wobb won the individual title with a time of 22:46.8.

Grove City will compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday, September 25.
