Grove City takes 3rd at CMU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Five Grove City College women's cross country runners placed in the top 30, helping the Wolverines earn third out of 14 teams at Carnegie Mellon's Pre-Regional Race at Cooper's Lake Campground. Grove City finished the day with 91 points. Oberlin won the team crown with 41 points. Case Western took second with 68 points.

Sophomore Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) earned ninth place for Grove City, one spot ahead of classmate Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker). Fisher completed the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 21 seconds while Smith posted a time of 23:23.

Senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) finished 19th in 23:52. Senior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) placed 25th in 24:09 and senior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) secured 28th place with a 24:17 clocking.

Oberlin's Joanna Johnson won the individual race with a time of 21:50.

Grove City returns to action Friday afternoon at Lehigh University's Paul Short Invitational.
