Wolverines win 22nd straight title

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team earned its 22nd straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday as the Wolverines accumulated just 21 team points at the PAC Championships, hosted by Waynesburg University at Greene County Airport.

Seven Grove City runners finished among the top 12 in the field, including four in the top five. Sophomore Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) earned second place overall with a time of 23 minutes, 10.83 seconds for six kilometers. Fellow sophomore Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) finished third in 23:12.25, one spot ahead of senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central). Pierce posted a time of 23:37.31.

Senior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) rounded out the top five by taking fifth in 23:42.59. Senior Kate McRoberts (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished seventh in 24:11.91. Fisher, Fryan, McRoberts, Pierce and Smith all earned First Team All-PAC honors.

Sophomore Hillary Wilson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) earned 11th place with a time of 24:28.11 and sophomore Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) took 12th (24:29.32). Breese and Wilson both received Second Team All-PAC honors.

Freshman Grace Postma (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin West) and junior Mary Rachel Robbins (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) also finished in the top 20. Postma took 17th place in 24:49.78 while Robbins placed 18th in 24:51.40.

Saint Vincent's Ivette Mejia earned medalist and PAC MVP honors with a victorious time of 22:41.89. Saint Vincent finished second in the team standings with 62 points.

Grove City will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships November 13 at Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock, Pa.
