Grove City takes 2nd at Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team earned second place out of 17 teams Saturday morning in the season-opening Westminster College Fisher Invitational. Grove City finished with 108 team points, tops among Division III programs in the meet. Division II Clarion won the team title with 71 points.

Five Grove City runners placed in the top 30. Junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) paced Grove City by finishing 14th overall. She covered the six-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 21.6 seconds.

Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) earned 21st in 25:41.4, one spot ahead of junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer). Breese posted a time of 25:45.4. Senior Mary Rachel Robbins (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) finished 23rd (25:45.8) and junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) took 28th with a time of 26:16.8.

Saint Vincent's Ivette Mejia won the race with a time of 22:49.0.

Grove City will compete in the Waynesburg Invitational next Saturday, September 10.
