Wolverines win Waynesburg Invitational

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team captured the team title at the Waynesburg University Invitational Saturday at Greene County Airport by accumulating just 45 team points. The Wolverines placed six runners in the top 15 en route to the championship. Host Waynesburg finished second with 67 points.

Junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) led Grove City by finishing fifth overall in the field. Breese covered the six-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 50.9 seconds.

Junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed eighth in 25:22.3, one spot ahead of junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker). Smith captured ninth place with a time of 25:25.5.

Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) earned 10th (25:27.8) and sophomore Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) took 13th with a time of 25:50.5. Junior Hillary Wilson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) finished 15th (26:05.3). Sophomore Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) rounded out Grove City's top seven by finishing 23rd in 26:37.8.

Saint Vincent's Ivette Mejia earned medalist with a time of 23:22.8.

Grove City returns to action October 8 at the DeSales Invitational.
